Lunch with the Guv - what to talk about? In a burst of impulsivity I walked away from the Green Valley North Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning with a date for lunch with former Governor Bob Erlich. I love having made the high bid in the auction
-- knowing that the money will support research into the devastating diseases of Crohn's and Colitis. But what to talk
about over lunch with the Guv? Suggestions are welcome...

Clickety ClackClickety clack was my introduction to the keynote address at the 2007 EduWeb conference in Baltimore as the keyboard-banger behind me got ready to take notes. Of the 300 attendees, perhaps 15% came lugging laptops,
but it was enough to change the atmosphere. Here's a taste... - the sounds of tapping keys filled the room (especially
from the "super banger" behind me
- people moving chairs or sitting in aisles clustered around scarce electrical
outlets
- fans whooshing on and off
- people moving, mid-presentation, to attempt the search for a vacant outlet
- sighs
of frustration (and conversation) around intermittent wireless connection
If this is the future, what can make
it happen without driving us batty? Killer apps -- ligher, longer-lived batteries (or maybe a rechargeable "backup"
the size and weight of a USB flash drive, silent keyboards, silent fans (or better yet, a more creative heat dissipation solution) As
for the "now you see it now you don't" wi-fi connection, the group was using enough bandwidth to down a T-1
line. Jim Cramer (Mad Money king) says there's a coming bandwidth shortage. I'm not smart enough to comment on that but if we got
a taste of it at this conference it was an UGLY sight.

Do spies socially network? The CIA launches a social networking site? The site is meant to allow agents to connect with one another. We've come
a long way since the folks at Ft. Meade Maryland worked at "No Such Agency." Or have we? Curious development
or weird new media spin? (Source: Investor's Business Daily)
